Removal

1. Remove water pump pulley and belt, then the timing belt cover.
2. Rotate crankshaft in normal direction of rotation until crankshaft and camshaft timing marks are aligned as shown in Fig. 38.
3. Loosen tension nut and bolt, move tensioner toward water pump as far as possible, then secure in this position by tightening tensioner nut.
4. Remove timing belt from camshaft sprocket, then the sprocket.
5. Remove crankshaft pulley, then place mark on timing belt to indicate portion of belt toward front of engine and remove timing belt.
6. Remove crankshaft sprocket attaching bolts, then the sprocket and flange, if necessary.
7. Remove timing belt tensioner, if necessary.
8. Inspect timing belt and camshaft and crankshaft sprockets for wear and damage.
