Following is an explanation of data found on the Engine Serial Number Pad
2.2L/2.5L/3.9L/5.2L/5.9L ENGINE SERIAL NUMBER & PARTS IDENTIFICATION CODES & SYMBOLS DEFINED:
A = Oversize Cylinder Bore E = Cast Crankshaft H = Standard 4 Bbl.
HP = High Performance K = Toluca Engine Plant LC = Low Compression
M = Mound Road Engine PC = Passenger Car Engine R = Passenger Car Engine S = Special Engine
T = Trenton Engine/Truck W = Windsor Engine X = O/S Valve Guide
DIAMOND (symbol) = O/S Tappets MALTESE CROSS (+) = .001 U/S Crankshaft X followed by MALTESE CROSS (X +) = .010 U/S Crankshaft

CAUTION: Replacement Engine Assemblies are furnished with blank engine number pads. Dealers are governed by state and local regulations regarding the affixing of engine numbers to these engines. In states where license fees are based on displacement or taxable horsepower it will be necessary to change the vehicle registration only if the replacement engine differs from the one it replaces.
