Evaporator Core: Service and Repair

Fig. 31 Evaporator Core Replacement:





1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then discharge refrigerant from A/C system.
2. Disconnect liquid pipe and suction hose and cap fittings.
3. Remove evaporator drain hose, then the glove box and dash insert.
4. Remove lap heater and righthand defroster ducts, then disconnect electrical connectors.
5. Remove evaporator assembly.
6. Remove clips attaching case halves, then disconnect expansion valve flare nut and remove evaporator core from case.
7. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Apply compressor oil to O-rings and expansion valve of evaporator assembly.
b. Install thermistor securely to clip located at fin of evaporator assembly.
c. Apply a suitable adhesive grommets, rubber insulation and electrical harness on evaporator assembly.
