Voltage Signal: Description and Operation

Purpose

Informs PCM of current charging system voltage.

Control Module adjusts alternator field strength to maintain system voltage between programmed limits.

Operation

If the PCM senses low battery voltage:

^ PCM increases injector pulse width, to compensate for slower opening of injector due to lower voltage.

^ PCM increases alternator field voltage.

If the PCM senses high battery voltage:

^ PCM decreases injector pulse width to compensate for faster opening of injector due to higher voltage.

^ PCM decreases tolerator field voltage.
