Ignition Lock: Service and Repair

Ignition lock & switch removal:





Ignition lock key cylinder retaining pin:





1. If equipped, disarm airbag system. Refer to MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES.
2. On models with tilt column, remove tilt lever.
3. On all models, remove three upper and lower cover attaching screws, then the covers.
4. Remove three ignition switch attaching screws then carefully pull switch away from column.
5. Disconnect ignition switch wiring connector.
6. Remove Lock cylinder from ignition switch as follows:
a. Insert key and place ignition switch in "Lock" position.
b. Use a small screwdriver to depress key cylinder retaining pin flush with key cylinder surface.
c. Rotate key clockwise to "Off" position, the key should be unseated from ignition switch assembly.
d. Rotate key to counterclockwise to "Lock" position, then remove key.
e. Remove key cylinder.
7. Reverse procedure to install. Rearm airbag system.
