Recall - VECI Label Defect: Overview

No.: 570
Date: October, 1994

Subject:
Emission Recall # 570 - VECI Label Replacement

Models:
Recall # 570: 1993 Model Year Dodge and Plymouth Colt and Eagle Summit Sedan Models Equipped With a 1.8L Engine, Federal Emission System and Built Before December 15, 1992.

Vehicle Emission Control Information (VECI) labels installed on the listed vehicles contain an incorrect hot valve clearance specification. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and State of California regulations require engine tune-up specifications and adjustments on the VECI label. To correct the condition, new VECI labels must be installed.

Six different VECI labels are involved depending on the vehicle, vehicle model year and emission system. For administrative purposes, six separate recall numbers have been assigned.

Replacement labels are being mailed directly to owners. The owners are requested to install the labels themselves or, if preferred, to arrange for dealer installation of the owner supplied labels without charge.

Details of this service action are explained in the following sections.
