Belt Tightening/Tension

1. Using belt tensioning tool No. C-4162, or equivalent, ensure belt tension is 100 lbs. If not within specification, tighten belt as follows:

a. Loosen power steering pump locking bolts A and B then loosen pivot bolt C.
b. Adjust tension by applying torque to square hole on idler bracket, 135 lbs. for a new belt and 100 lbs. for used belt. [01]
c. Torque in order, locking bolt A, then locking bolt B to 20 ft. lbs. Finally, Torque pivot bolt C to 40 ft. lbs.
2. Check belt tension after driving vehicle.


[01] -- A belt which has been installed and run for 15 minutes is considered "used".
