Air Temperature Sensor ( Ambient / Intake ): Description and Operation

MAP/IAT Sensor:

PURPOSE
The intake air temperature sensor measures the temperature of the air as it enters the engine. The sensor supplies one of the inputs the PCM uses to determine injector pulse-width and spark advance.

OPERATION
As Intake Air temperature varies the Intake Air Temperature sensors resistance changes resulting in a different input voltage to the PCM.

CONSTRUCTION
The MAP/Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor, located on the intake manifold, combines the MAP and Intake Air Temperature (IAT) functions into one sensor.
