Timing Cover: Service and Repair

Removal
1. Disconnect negative cable from battery.
2. Remove front engine compartment supports and upper radiator crossmember.
3. Disconnect fan module electrical connector.

Fan Module - Removal/Installation:





4. Remove fan module.
5. Remove accessory drive belts.
6. Raise vehicle on hoist and use Special Tool 8191 to hold crankshaft damper while removing center bolt.

Crankshaft Damper - Removal/Installation:





7. Remove crankshaft damper.

Timing Belt Covers:





8. Remove the lower belt cover located behind the crankshaft damper.

Sealer Timing Belt Cover:





9. Remove the stamped steel cover. Do not remove the sealer on the cover, it is reusable. If some sealer is missing use Mopar(R) Silicone Rubber Adhesive Sealant or equivalent to replace the missing sealer.
10. Remove generator/power steering belt tensioner pulley and bracket.
11. Remove the left cast cover.

Installation
1. Install left cast cover and generator/power steering belt tensioner pulley and bracket.
2. Install the right stamped steel cover.
3. Install the lower cover.

Crankshaft Damper - Installation:





4. Install crankshaft damper by tightening the nut of Special Tool 6792. Install center bolt. Use Special Tool 8191 to hold damper and tighten center bolt to 115 Nm (85 ft. lbs.).
5. Install fan module.
6. Install upper radiator crossmember and engine compartment supports.
7. Connect negative battery cable.
