Disassembly

NOTE: As the valve body is disassembled, see image, place the individual valves in the order they are removed and in a relative position to the valve body. None of the valves, bushings or springs are interchangeable, however some of the coiled pins are. Remove all coiled pins by pushing through from the rough cast side of the control valve, except the two pins which retain the throttle valve and plunger.

1. Remove the 4 check balls.

2. Remove 1-2 accumulator piston, then remove manual valve from upper bore. Some of the coiled pins have pressure against them. Therefore place a shop towel over bore while removing pin to avoid losing bore plug, spring, etc.

3. Remove coiled pin from upper right hand bore and remove 2-3 throttle valve bushing, spring, throttle valve and shift valve. The 2-3 throttle valve spring and throttle valve may be inside the bushing.

4. From next bore down, remove coiled pin, then remove 1-2 throttle valve bushing, spring and shift valve. The 1-2 throttle valve spring and throttle valve may be inside the bushing.

5. From next bore down, remove coiled pin and bore plug, then remove reverse boost spring and valve.

6. Check operation of shift T.V. valve in next bore down by moving valve against spring. If necessary to remove valve, proceed as follows:

a. Remove coiled pin and place valve body on shop towel with rough casting side up.

b. Using needle nose pliers, push on T.V. shift valve to compress spring, and hold valve with small screwdriver.

c. Place a 1/4 inch (6.3 mm) rod, 3/8 inch (9.5 mm) long against end of shift T.V. valve.

d. Pry on end of rod with another screwdriver, then remove first screwdriver, shift T.V. plug, spring and valve.

e. Discard shift T.V. plug and remove rod.

7. From next bore down, remove coiled pin, then remove throttle valve plunger, bushing, throttle valve spring and detent pin, if applicable. Using a 1/16 inch (1.5 mm) Allen wrench with ground ends to fit inside pin, remove inner coiled pin and throttle valve.

8. From upper left hand bore, remove coiled pin, intermediate boost spring and valve.

9. From next bore down, remove coiled pin, low overrun clutch spring and valve.

10. From next bore down, remove coiled pin, direct clutch exhaust spring and valve.

11. From next bore down, remove coiled pin, bore plug and 1-2 accumulator valve and spring.
