Rear Selective Thrust Washer









1. Check selective washer for scoring or damage. Rear selective thrust washer must be installed with the identification number toward the front of the transmission.

2. Install rear selective washer into transmission case.

3. Check selective thrust washer snap ring for damage or distortion. Move output shaft upward by turning adjusting screw on tool No. J29332 and install snap ring.

4. Install wide snap ring onto output shaft Ensure snap ring is fully seated in output shaft groove.

5. Loosen adjusting screw on tool No. J29332 and push output shaft downward. Install gauge clamp onto transmission case as shown in Figure.

6. Install dial indicator and plunger extension tool No. J7057 onto rear unit Position extension against end of output shaft and set dial indicator to zero.

7. Move output shaft upward by turning adjusting screw on tool No. J29332 until white or scribed line on sleeve of tool No. 23013 begins to disappear. Rear unit endplay should be 0.004-0.025 inch (0.10-0.64 mm). Selective washer controlling end play limit is located between front internal ear thrust washer and output shaft snap ring. If it is necessary to increase or decrease washer thickness, refer to rear unit endplay chart, for correct washer thickness to be used.

8. Remove dial indicator and clamp assembly.

9. Loosen tool No. J29332 adjusting screw.

10. Check forward clutch shaft front Selective thrust washer for damage. Replace if damaged.

11. Install forward clutch shaft front selective thrust washer into transmission case and secure thrust washer using a suitable grease.
