Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

1. Check fluid level and correct if necessary.

2. Make certain engine and transmission are at normal operating temperature.

3. Be sure selector lever moves freely in all positions and that pointer on indicator quadrant is correctly aligned.

4. Check manual linkage and correct if necessary.

5. Install oil pressure test gauge and road test car using all selective ranges, noting when discrepancies in operation or oil pressure occur. Attempt to isolate the unit or circuit involved in the malfunction.

6. If engine performance indicates that an engine tune up is required this should be performed before road testing is completed or transmission correction is attempted. Poor engine performance can result in rough
shifting or other malfunctions.
