Thermostatic Air Cleaner: Service and Repair


VACUUM MOTOR, REPLACE

1. Remove air cleaner, then disconnect vacuum hose from motor.
2. Using 1/16 inch drill bit, drill out the two spot welds holding retaining strap to snorkel. Continue to enlarge as required until retaining strap breaks loose from snorkel.
3. Lift motor and twist until linkage unhooks from control damper assembly. Remove vacuum motor from vehicle.
4. Using a 7-64 inch drill bit, drill hole in snorkel tube half way between the two spot welds.
5. Connect linkage to control damper and install vacuum motor into snorkel tube.
6. Using new retaining strap and sheet metal screw provided in service kit, secure vacuum motor to snorkel. Make certain that screw does not interfere with operation of damper assembly. Shorten screw if necessary.
7. Connect vacuum hose to motor and install air cleaner.

TEMPERATURE SENSOR, REPLACE
1. Remove air cleaner and disconnect hoses from sensor.
2. Pry upward on retaining clip tabs, then remove retaining clip and sensor from air cleaner.
3. Reverse procedure to install.
