Steering Column - Rattling Noise

Subject: STEERING COLUMN NOISE - 1984 PONTIAC VEHICLES
Some 1984 Pontiac vehicles equipped with tilt steering columns may exhibit a rattling noise in the column. This noise may be from the lock bolt area and can be repaired by lubricating the lock bolt.



1.. Remove steering wheel, shaft lock cover, shaft lock, cancelling cam, cancelling cam spring, signal switch, buzzer switch, lock cylinder and lock housing cover as shown in the Pontiac Service Manual Section 3B4.

2. Liberally coat exposed area of lock bolt with lithium base chassis grease, then reassemble. Refer to the Pontiac Service Manual Section 3B4 for the reassembly procedure.
