Brakes and Traction Control: Service and Repair: Fundamentals and Basics
CAUTIONBefore re-installing the wheels, remove any build up of corrosion on the wheel mounting surface and disc mounting surface by scraping and wire brushing. Installing wheels without good metal-to-metal contact at the mounting surfaces can cause wheel nuts to loosen. This can lead to a wheel coming off while the vehicle is moving, possibly causing loss of control.
INSTALL
1. Wheel and tire assembly in position on the hub/rotor, and lug nuts installed loosely.
2. Turn the wheel until one nut is at the top of the bolt circle. Tighten the nut just snug.
3. Snug up the remaining nuts criss-cross to minimize runout.
Wheel Tightening Sequence:
TIGHTEN
^ Nuts to specification.
^ Tighten evenly and alternately to avoid excessive runout.
