Neutral Safety Switch: Service and Repair

Removal
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Disconnect shift linkage.
3. Disconnect switch electrical connector, then remove switch mounting screws and switch, Fig. 27.

Installation
1. Place shift shaft in Neutral position, then align flats on shaft with flats on switch.
2. Loosely install switch.
3. If original switch is being installed, insert a 3/32 inch drill bit into switch adjustment hole, Fig. 27. Move switch until drill bit drops to depth of 9/64 inch, then tighten switch mounting screws and remove drill bit.
4. New switches are pinned in Neutral position. If installation is difficult, ensure shift shaft is Neutral. Do not rotate switch. Tighten switch mounting screws.
