Alternator: Service and Repair
GENERATOR REPLACEMENT
Important: The generators MUST NOT be disassembled. It is serviced as a complete unit.
Removal
1. Disconnect battery negative cable.
2. Remove acoustic engine cover.
3. Remove serpentine drive belt.
4. Remove bolts/screws from generator.
5. Remove power steering gear pipe clip and nut.
6. Remove stud from generator.
7. Disconnect electrical connector from generator.
8. Loosen generator front and rear braces from upper intake manifold.
9. Remove nut and battery positive lead from generator output "BAT" terminal.
10. Remove generator.
Installation
1. Position generator to bracket.
2. Connect battery positive lead and nut to generator output "BAT" terminal. Tighten nut to 20 Nm (15 lb.ft.).
3. Hand start generator front and rear braces to intake manifold.
4. Connect electrical connector to generator. Connector will "snap" in place when correctly installed.
5. Hand start stud to generator.
6. Install bolts/screws to generator. Tighten bolts/screws to 50 Nm (37 lb.ft.). Make sure tightening brace nuts does NOT bind generator.
7. Install generator front and rear brace nuts to intake manifold. Tighten nuts to 25 Nm (18 lb. ft.).
8. Install stud to generator. Tighten stud to 25 Nm (18 lb.ft.).
9. Install power steering gear pipe clip and nut.
10. InstallSerpentine drive belt.
11. Install acoustic engine cover.
12. Connect Battery negative cable.
