SIR Connector/Terminal Position Assurance

CONNECTOR POSITION ASSURANCE (CPA)
The connector position assurance (CPA) is a small plastic insert you insert through the locking tabs of all of the SIR system connectors. The CPA assures the following:
^ The connector halves are securely connected.
^ The connector halves cannot vibrate apart.
^ There is good contact between SIR mating terminals.
Removing the inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module harness connector CPA activates the shorting bar in this connector. This will turn the AIR BAG warning lamp ON when the ignition switch is at the RUN or START position.

TERMINAL POSITION ASSURANCE (TPA)
The Terminal Position Assurance (TPA) insert is similar to the plastic "combs" used in powertrain control module connectors. The function of the TPA is to keep the terminal securely seated in the connector body. Do not remove the TPA from the connector body unless a terminal must be removed for replacement.
