Intermittent Malfunctions

As with most electronic systems, intermittent malfunctions may be difficult to diagnose. Most intermittent malfunctions are caused by faulty electrical connections or wiring. Refer to Testing for Intermittent and Poor Connections in Diagrams for a detailed explanation of how to locate and repair intermittent conditions.

Keep in mind the following tips when diagnosing intermittent malfunctions:
1. Review the DTCs stored.
2. Inspect the service bulletins for similar cases where repair history may be available.
3. Evaluate the symptoms and conditions described by the customer.
4. Use a check sheet or another method in order to identify the circuit or electrical system component.
5. Follow the suggestions in diagnostic aids.
6. Verify the complaint under the conditions described by the customer.
7. Determine whether the condition described by the customer is normal and not related to a PSD malfunction. Verify the complaint against another vehicle that is operating normally.
