A/C Refrigerant Filter Replacement

TOOLS REQUIRED
J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
2. Remove the left sheet metal diagonal brace.
3. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
4. Loosen the A/C refrigerant filter flare nuts.

IMPORTANT: Immediately cap or tape the open front evaporator tube and the condenser in order to prevent contamination.

5. Remove the A/C refrigerant filter from the evaporator tube.
6. Discard the O-ring.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Remove the cap or the tape from the evaporator tubes.
2. Lubricate and install new O-ring to each end of the evaporator tube. Refer to O-Ring Replacement

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

IMPORTANT: Fully seat the A/C filter to the ferrules in order to ensure that the O-ring seat inside the filter housing.

3. Install the A/C refrigerant filter to the evaporator tube with the arrow pointing toward the evaporator.

Tighten
Tighten the A/C refrigerant filter flare nuts to 15 N.m (11 lb ft).

4. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
5. Install the left sheet metal diagonal brace.
6. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
7. Leak test the fittings of the component using J 39400-A.
