Cigarette Lighter: Service and Repair

CIGAR LIGHTER REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P)

TOOLS REQUIRED
J 42059 Cigar Lighter Socket Remover

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




1. Remove the cigarette lighter fuse.
2. Remove the cigarette lighter element.
3. Position the steering wheel one halt turn to the right for access to the lighter.
4. Remove the IP cluster from the IP carrier.
5. Remove the radio from the IP carrier.
6. Release the rosebud retainer (1) for the cigarette lighter wiring harness from the IP carrier.
7. Remove the cigarette lighter socket (3) by placing one side of the "T" portion of the tool (4) J 42059 into the tab window and then the other should be angled into the opposite tab window, then pull the lighter socket straight out.
8. Remove the tool (4) from the lighter socket (3).
9. Disconnect the electrical connector from the cigarette lighter socket (3).
10. With a flat-bladed tool remove the cigarette lighter retainer (2), if required.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Position the cigarette lighter retainer (2) with the key to the slot into the cigarette lighter hole, if required.
2. Install the cigarette lighter retainer (2) pressing into place until fully seated.
3. Connect the electrical connector to cigarette lighter socket (3).
4. Align the cigarette lighter socket (3) to the cigarette lighter retainer (2).
Press into place until fully seated.
5. Reposition the steering wheel.
6. Where the radio was removed install the rosebud retainer (1) for the cigarette lighter wiring harness to the IP carrier.
7. Install the radio to the IP carrier.
8. Install the IP cluster to the IP carrier.
9. Install the cigarette lighter fuse.
10. Install the cigarette lighter element.
