Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement - Front

- J 42450-A Hub Cleaning Kit

Removal Procedure

1. Inspect the fluid level in the brake master cylinder reservoir.
2. If the brake fluid level is midway between the maximum-full point and the minimum allowable level, then no brake fluid needs to be removed from the reservoir before proceeding. If the brake fluid level is higher than midway between the maximum-full point and the minimum allowable level, then remove brake fluid to the midway point before proceeding.
3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.

4. Remove the tire and wheel.

Notice: Support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic's wire, or equivalent, whenever it is separated from it's mount and the hydraulic flexible brake hose is still connected. Failure to support the caliper in this manner will cause the flexible brake hose to bear the weight of the caliper, which may cause damage to the brake hose and in turn may cause a brake fluid leak.

5. Remove the brake caliper.







6. Remove the brake pads from the brake caliper bracket.
7. Remove the brake pad retainers from the brake caliper bracket.







8. Remove the brake caliper bracket bolts (2).
9. Use a wire brush in order to remove any thread locker and debris from the bolt threads.
10. Remove the brake caliper bracket (1).
11. Inspect the brake mounting and hardware.
12. Replace any damaged or missing hardware.
13. Inspect and replace the brake caliper bracket if cracks or damage exists.
14. Use a wire brush in order to remove any rust and debris from the brake caliper bracket where the brake pad retainers contact the brake caliper bracket.
15. Use a wire brush in order to clean away any rust and debris from the brake pads where the brake pads contact the brake pad retainers.
16. Remove any rust and debris from the brake pad retainers.



Installation Procedure







1. Clean any corrosion from the brake rotor flange.
2. Use the J 42450-A in order to clean the hub flange
3. Install the brake caliper bracket (1).
4. To ensure that the proper clamp load will be present when installed. It is imperative that: the threads on the caliper bracket bolts, as, well as the mounting holes in the knuckle, be cleaned of all debris and inspected before proceeding with installation.
Clean and visually inspect the threads of the caliper bracket bolts (2) and mounting holes in the knuckle.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Important: Apply Threadlocker GM P/N 12345493 (Canadian P/N 10953488) or equivalent to the threads of the brake caliper bracket bolts (2).

5. Install the brake caliper bracket bolts.
- Tighten the brake caliper bracket bolts to 185 Nm (137 lb ft).







6. Lubricate with GM P/N 18010909 (Canadian P/N 10953487) or equivalent and Install the brake pad retainers to the brake caliper bracket.
7. Lubricate with GM P/N 18010909 (Canadian P/N 10953487) or equivalent and Install the brake caliper pin boots to the brake caliper pins.
8. Lubricate the caliper pins with GM P/N 18010909 (Canadian P/N 10953487) or equivalent.
9. Push the caliper pins in until the pin boots are fully seated.
10. Push the caliper pins in and out in order to ensure caliper pins move easily.
11. Install the brake pads to the brake caliper bracket.
12. Install the brake caliper.
13. Install the tire and wheel.
14. Lower the vehicle.
