Park Brake Hardware Replacement

- J 38400 Brake Shoe Spanner and Spring Remover

Removal Procedure





1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
3. Remove the brake drum.
4. Position the hook end of the J 38400 under the universal spring and lightly pull the universal spring end (2) out of the primary shoe web hole. Hold the universal spring while removing the primary brake shoe (1).
5. Disconnect the park brake lever from the primary brake shoe by removing the retaining clip.
6. Disconnect the park brake lever from the park brake cable.

Installation Procedure





1. Connect the park brake lever to the park brake cable.
2. Connect the park brake lever to the primary brake shoe and install the retaining clip.
3. Position the hook end of the J 38400 under the universal spring and lightly pull the universal spring end (2) out while installing the primary shoe. Ensure that the universal spring properly engages the primary brake shoe web hole.
4. Adjust the drum brake system.
5. Install the brake drum.
6. Install the tire and wheel assembly.
7. Lower the vehicle.
