Catalytic Converter: Service and Repair

Catalytic Converter Replacement
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the Heated Oxygen Sensor 1 (H02S1).
2. Remove the Heated Oxygen Sensor 2 (H02S2).
3. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.





4. Remove the bolts securing the front pipe to the Three-Way Catalytic Converter (TWC).
5. Remove the bolts securing the Three-Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) to the muffler/tail pipe assembly.
6. Remove the hangers from the TWC (2).
7. Remove the TWC from the vehicle.
8. Clean the gasket and seal mating surfaces.

Installation Procedure

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

1. Install the TWC to the vehicle.





2. Install the hangers to the TWC (2).
3. Install the bolts securing the Three-Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) to the muffler/tail pipe assembly.
^ Tighten the TWC to muffler/tail pipe assembly bolt to 32 Nm (24 ft. lbs.).
4. Install the bolts securing the front pipe to the Three-Way Catalytic Converter (TWC).
^ Tighten the TWC to front pipe bolts to 43 Nm (32 ft. lbs.).
5. Install the Heated Oxygen Sensor 2 (H02S2).
6. Install the Heated Oxygen Sensor 1 (H02S1).
7. Lower the vehicle.
