Parking Brake System: Service and Repair

Park Brake Hardware Replacement

Removal Procedure





1. Remove the rear brake rotor. Refer to Brake Rotor Replacement - Rear in Disc Brakes.
2. Remove the park brake shoe. Refer to Park Brake Shoe Replacement.
3. Use a flat-bladed tool in order to remove the shoe spring (1) from the shield.





4. Remove the following components:
- The adjusting screw (1)
- The adjusting nut (2)
- The pushrod (7)
- The washer (6)
- The adjuster tappet (5)

Installation Procedure





1. Apply GM Vehicle Cared Dri-Slide Lubricant, GM P/N 1052948, or the equivalent lithium molybdenum disulphide lubricant, to the following components:
- The adjusting screw (1)
- The adjusting nut (2)
- The pushrod (7)
2. Assemble the adjuster.
3. Install the shoe spring and the park brake shoe. Refer to Park Brake Shoe Replacement.
4. Install the rear brake rotor. Refer to Brake Rotor Replacement - Rear in Disc Brakes.
