Steering Column Jacket Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Place the vehicle in the straight forward position.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Remove the steering wheel.
4. Remove the column trim covers.
5. Remove the SIR coil.
6. Remove the left closeout panel.
7. Remove the knee bolster screws.
8. Remove the ignition lock cylinder case.





Important: Do Not remove the steering column to intermediate steering shaft pinch bolt.

9. Remove the upper column attachment bolts.





Important: Do not strike or bump the exposed shaft.

10. Remove the upper jacket attachment bolts and remove the jacket.

Installation Procedure

1. Clean the lower column shaft splines.
2. Ensure the upper jacket shaft splines are clean and free of debris.
3. Use the supplied grease to apply 2 grams (0.07 ounces) of grease to the column shaft splines.
4. Ensure that the steering wheel alignment notch is in the 12 o'clock position.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice.

5. Install the jacket to the column housing.

Tighten the bolts to 11 N.m (97 lb in).




6. Install the upper column attachment bolts.

Tighten the bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

7. Install the ignition lock cylinder case.
8. Install the left closeout panel.
9. Install the knee bolster.
10. Install the SIR coil.
11. Install the column trim covers.
12. Install the steering wheel.
13. Connect the negative battery cable.
14. Road test the vehicle to verify steering operation.
