Engine Identification
The primary Vehicle Identification Number - VIN derivative for the 3800 - L26 is stamped or laser etched on the left side of the engine block above the starter motor (1).
The secondary Vehicle Identification Number - VIN, derivative for the 3800 - L26 is stamped or laser etched below the water pump on the engine block (1). The Vehicle Identification Number - derivative is nine digits long and can be used to determine if a vehicle contains the original engine.
- The first digit identifies the division.
- The second digit identifies the model year.
- The third digit identifies the assembly plant.
- The fourth through ninth digit are the last six of the Vehicle Identification Number - VIN.
