Turbocharger: Service and Repair


911 Turbo
1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then the hose between turbo outlet and turbo outlet duct, then the oil line from engine.
2. Loosen rear apron attaching screws, then the rear apron and seal.
3. Loosen clamp between bypass line and muffler, then attaching nuts between turbo and muffler.
4. Loosen muffler clamp, then remove muffler.
5. Disconnect hose between turbo inlet line and turbo, then slide hose to left and allow oil to drain into oil trap.
6. Disconnect oil return line at oil trap, then loosen oil trap drain tube located under turbo and remove trap.
7. Remove turbo to exhaust pipe attaching bolts and turbo attaching bolts, then the turbo unit.
8. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Install new oil drain plug seals, self-locking nuts and gaskets.
b. After installation, lubricate turbo with 2 - 4 cubic centimeters of engine oil.
c. Prior to starting engine, the turbo lubricating oil must be pumped for 30 seconds. This can be accomplished by disconnecting the boost pressure control switch wiring connector and turning engine over with the starter for 30 seconds.
