Automatic Transmission/Transaxle: Service and Repair


1. Remove heat shield and rear muffler bracket, then disconnect axle shafts at transaxle. Suspend axle shafts in horizontal position to prevent damage to dust covers.
2. Remove transaxle oil filler shield.
3. Disconnect selector lever and transaxle lever cables. Transaxle lever cable has a lock at ball head.
4. Through inspection hole in rear bellhousing, remove converter mounting bolts.
5. Assemble tools US618, 618/1, 618/2 and 5001 or equivalent on suitable floor jack and raise transaxle slightly.
6. Remove transaxle bellhousing flange bolts and transaxle mounts.
7. Lower transaxle slightly to the rear so that torque converter can be secured. Do not allow converter to fall from transaxle.
8. Remove transaxle.
9. Reverse procedure to install.
