Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Knock Sensor Monitoring

1. Remove and inspect knock sensor plug.
2. Reconnect knock sensor and disconnect K/CP control unit electrical connector.
3. Connect ohmmeter across K/CP harness terminals 11 and 13.

If 270 - 330 ohms, proceed to step 5.
If Not 270 - 330 ohms, proceed to next step.

4. Check related sensor wiring. If wiring OK, replace knock sensor. End of test.
5. Check tightening torque of sensor.

Should be 14 ft lb (20 Nm)

6. Correct as necessary. If torque value is correct and fault is still indicated, retest with known good sensor. If fault is now resolved, replace original sensor. If fault condition still exists, replace K/CP control unit.
