Engine Control Module: Description and Operation
The digital motor electronics (DME)
control unit is located next to the K/CP unit in the passenger footwell. It controls fuel pump operation, fuel delivery, and ignition system timing and firing control. It uses information from various under hood sensors and switches to determine engine needs under a variety of operating conditions. Sensor data is plotted on a "map" programmed into the unit to determine what optimum setting are for a given condition.
