Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Engine Speed Sensor: Service and Repair

SPEED SENSOR & REFERENCE MARK TRANSMITTER CLEARANCE, ADJUSTING
A clearance of .8 mm is specified between speed sensor and ring gear. If this clearance is correct, reference mark sensor will automatically be correctly positioned. The reference mark sensor clearance will have to be adjusted only in case of damage or replacement of locked reference mark screw.
1. Remove speed sensor.
2. Glue .8 mm thick washer on sensor with suitable quick drying, easily removable glue.
3. Loosen bolts on bracket and retighten finger tight so that bracket can still be pivoted at bottom bolt.
4. Install longer sensor in speed sensor opening and tighten.
5. Move bracket with long sensor against gear ring, then tighten bracket bolts.
6. Remove longer sensor, pry off glued washer and remove glue.
7. Install speed sensor, torquing to 6 ft. lbs.
