Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

1. Remove speed/reference sensor.
2. Rotate flywheel until one tooth is centered in the sensor bore.

Setting Engine Speed Sensor Clearance (Tiptronic Vehicles):

3. Using a depth micrometer, measure distance from surface of spacer to flywheel tooth. Record reading.
4. Measure sensor length from mounting lip to end of sensor. Record reading.
5. Subtract sensor length from bore depth.
6. Install or remove spacers to achieve a difference of 0.8mm.

Example:

Bore depth 24.7mm
Sensor length - 24.0mm
___________

Difference 0.7mm

Add 0.1mm spacer to achieve a clearance of 0.8mm.

7. Reinstall sensor.
