1996 911 Carrera with Tiptronic Transmission

Concern:

As of model year 1996, Tiptronic transmission control units (TCU) sold as spare parts must be coded for the country in which the vehicle is operated (RDW, USA or Taiwan).

Coding Procedure:

Should replacement of the TCU become necessary, the TCU must be coded for the USA. Vehicles produced for Canada are also coded for USA. The coding procedure is as follows:

- Connect the system tester 9288 and select vehicle type 911.
- Select "Tiptronic" from the menu.
- Select "Country Coding" from the menu. This will display the country coding and where it was coded (factory or repair shop).





The system tester screen appears as shown:





- To select coding, press 1. The menu will list your coding options as shown:

- Select the proper version coding (i.e. 2 for USA). The system tester will appear as follows:





- After coding is completed, the above pictured screen will appear. The system tester can now be switched off and removed from the vehicle.
