In the course of developing the Cayenne, great demands were made on electrical and electronic functions as well as on safety and convenience. The previous vehicle electrical system was no longer up to the increased demands upon the electrical systems and electronics.

Information exchange among the numerous convenience, control and management systems was necessary in order to meet the high demands of the sporty SUV. Power supply plays an essential role in this and must be continuously monitored and regulated. Key roles are performed by the CAN (Controller Area Network) and MOST (Media Oriented Systems Transport) data communication systems.

The use of these systems enhances the field of vehicle electrical systems/electronics.
