Brake Pad: Service and Repair


Disc brake pads must be changed in complete axle sets. Do not mix pads of different makes or grades.




1. Raise and support vehicle and remove front wheels.
2. Disconnect wear warning electrical connector at caliper.
3. Remove clip and retaining key from caliper.
4. Carefully pry between disc and pad with suitable tool to force caliper piston into its bore.
5. Remove brake pads.
6. Check condition of caliper dust cap and bellows that protect caliper sliding bushings and replace if necessary. Clean end of caliper piston and bushings with brake fluid prior to installing replacement parts. Lubricate new parts with brake fluid.
7. Install anti-squeal springs on new disc pads and install pads into caliper.
8. Install retaining key and clip and connect wear warning electrical connector.
