Catalytic Converter: Testing and Inspection

1. Remove catalytic converter from vehicle.
2. With either opening toward a light source, inspect ceramic insert, then repeat on other side. If ceramic insert is broken, melted, or clogged, then the catalytic converter must be replaced.
3. Tap either end of the converter on a hard, solid surface, then invert and repeat. Reinspect the ceramic insert. If any of the ceramic insert os loose or its position has changed, replace the catalytic converter.
