INTRODUCTION
This service campaign addresses a problem with early 1985 900 and 900S models which may break the throttle cable adjustment screw.
In the event of large movement of the power unit the adjusting end of the throttle control may break after contact with the track clip which holds the four fuel injector lines against the intake manifold. Later cars after the specified VIN Serial No. have a modified design.
Purchasers of affected vehicles will receive the service campaign notice described below to inform them that they are entitled to this modification at no charge. Owner notices will be mailed once an initial supply of parts has been shipped to all dealers. The quantity of parts in the initial shipment to each dealer will equal 50% of the number of affected vehicles listed on the dealer's campaign status list (see printout attached to this S.I.). These parts will be debited to the dealership parts account.
OWNER NOTICE
The notice message pictured below will be sent to owners of the following M85 vehicles by Saab-Scania of America, Inc.:
^ All 900 and 900S models within these VIN Serial No. ranges:
F1000001 - F1005325 F2000001 - F2002717
All local owners who will receive notice from Saab-Scania of America, Inc. are identified on the dealer's campaign status list. ("R" and owner name follow VIN.) The list also includes affected vehicles in dealer inventory ("I" follows VIN).
PARTS INVOLVED
The following parts kit is needed to modify one vehicle:
(1) 88-17-660 Kit (Slotted hose, nyloc ties)
If the throttle cable is damaged, order the correct M85 cable for the particular transmission type* -
Manual - 75-25-686
Automatic - 75-25-694
*Must be ordered separately but may be claimed on the same warranty form. Initial parts supply from Saab contains only modification kit 88-17-660 and will be shipped automatically (estimate mid-November). Reorder as necessary once campaign is underway.
WARRANTY REIMBURSEMENT
Use a regular warranty claim as in all Saab service campaigns. Follow the claim instruction below. No additional parts or time may appear on the claim.

Labor Allowance: Enter 0.3 straight time to fit Service Kit (P/N 88-17-660). Add Operation No. 27121 (0.3 hour) if throttle cable replaced.
MODIFICATION INSTRUCTIONS
Remove clip 93-41-793 and replace it by corrugated, slotted hose 75-31-494, so that the hose will retain the fuel injector lines for a corresponding distance plus about 2.75 in. (70 mm) further towards the fuel distributor.
Orient the slot in the hose rearwards to "3 o'clock" (toward firewall).
Fit five nyloc ties 79-71-872 around the hose. Wrap one of the ties around bracket 93-42-221 which stands between the branches of the inlet manifold and wrap one above the bend of the adjacent warm-up regulator fuel lines. Distribute the other ties along the remainder of the hose. See Fig. 1 on reverse.
Replace the throttle cable if the plastic adjusting end is damaged.
