Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Using Bleeder Unit

1. Using the brake fluid reservoir filler cap.
- Using a length of hose, connect the container of brake fluid to the filler funnel (supplied with the brake system bleeder unit [16] 88 19 096) and strap the filler funnel to the brake fluid reservoir to avoid the risk of emptying the reservoir.
2. Bleed the system by means of the bleeder unit.
- Bleed the brake system in the following order:

^ Right hand front wheel
^ Left hand rear wheel
^ Left hand front wheel
^ Right hand rear wheel

- When changing the brake fluid, the contents of the brake fluid reservoir must be siphoned off. The reservoir should then be filled with fresh brake fluid. Each brake caliper must be drained of the amount of fluid as follows:

^ Right hand front wheel: 0.1 L
^ Left hand rear wheel: 0.05 L
^ Left hand front wheel: 0.1 L
^ Right hand rear wheel: 0.05 L

3. Switch ON the ignition and check that the ABS warning lamp on the dashboard goes out (cars with ABS).
- Drive the car and test the braking system, braking normally and also braking with the ABS (if equipped).
- Check the level of the brake fluid.
