General
The amount of fuel injected into the engine depends on the amount of air passing through the mass air flow sensor.

The amount of air that is to pass through the mass air flow sensor is determined by the position of the accelerator (engine load) and the speed of the engine. The amount of air is measured by the mass air flow sensor. On the basis of this information the control module calculates how much petrol the injectors should squirt into the engine.

The oxygen sensor, fitted to cars equipped with a catalytic converter, measures the oxygen content of the exhaust gases. This indicates whether too much or too little fuel is injected into the engine. The control module adjusts the amount of fuel on receiving a signal from the oxygen sensor.

The control module ensures that the opening duration of the injectors is correct for each individual engine load condition.
