Checking the ignition coil

Check the ignition coil, -M91

In the event of flashover or an open circuit in the ignition coil or cover plate, or the wrong type of spark plug, diagnostic trouble code 60000 may be generated For fault diagnosis, see "Diagnostic trouble code 60000". 60000

Important: Defective spark plugs can cause diagnostic trouble codes to be generated in the LH system.





Check ignition coils that are suspected of being defective as follows:

1 Remove the ignition discharge module from the cylinder head.

2 Remove the black cover on the module. Inspect the cover for flashover or other damage and change it if damaged. Check that the rubber sleeve, seal and spring are correctly fitted.




3 Remove and inspect the ignition coils for oil leakage. Use an ISAT scan tool or other universal meter to check the resistance. The resistance should be:




4 Change any faulty ignition coils.

5 Check that the spark plugs are of recommended type or the equivalent.

6 Fit in reverse order.
