Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Replacement

To Remove
1 First disconnect the negative battery cable and then the positive cable.

Important: Do not disconnect the battery while the engine is running as this could do serious harm to the alternator.

2 Undo the bolt and remove the bracket holding the battery in place.
3 Lift out the battery.

To Install
Install in reverse order.
Clean the battery before reinstallation it and make sure that the terminal posts and cable connectors are clean to ensure good electrical contact. After installation, smear the terminal posts and cable connectors with acid-free petroleum jelly (Vaseline).

WARNING: Do not connect the battery cables to the wrong terminal posts. If connected wrongly for only an instant, the rectifier in the alternator will be damaged beyond repair. Connect the positive cable to the battery's positive terminal and the negative cable to the battery's negative terminal. When connecting an external battery temporarily to the car battery, connect positive to positive and negative to ground (not to the negative terminal). Do not connect or disconnect the battery while the engine is running. Both negative and positive cables should be disconnected from the battery when it is given a boost charge.
