Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Ground Test

1. Connect voltmeter positive lead to starter through bolt and negative voltmeter lead to battery negative post.
2. Crank engine with remote starter switch and observe voltmeter reading.
3. If voltmeter reading exceeds .2 volt, isolate points of excessive voltage loss by leaving negative lead connected to negative battery post and repeating test at the following locations:
a. Voltmeter positive lead to starter drive housing.
b. Voltmeter positive lead to ground terminal at engine.
c. Voltmeter positive lead to cable clamp at battery.
4. Small changes in voltmeter reading should occur every time lead position is changed. A large change in voltage reading would indicates last part eliminated in test is at fault.
