Brake Light Switch: Service and Repair

The brake light switch is actuated mechanically by the brake pedal. The switch is located in the pedal assembly adjacent to the push-rod connected to the brake servo unit.

The switch should be adjusted so that the brake lights come on when the pedal is depressed about 10 mm.

To install the brake light switch, proceed as follows:
1 Depress the brake pedal and install the brake light switch (make sure that it snaps into place and is secured by the locking tongues as shown in Fig. A above).
2 Withdraw the push-rod to its outermost position.
3 Carefully release the brake pedal to ensure that the brake light switch is correctly adjusted (the switch is self-adjusting).


WARNING : It is vitally important for the brake light switch to be installed as described above to ensure that it works reliably.
