Manifold Pressure/Vacuum Sensor: Description and Operation

Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor:

PURPOSE
The MAP sensor provides a continuous signal to the ECM regarding intake manifold pressure.

LOCATION
Right side of firewall area.

OPERATION
The MAP sensor registers intake manifold pressure via a special hose. The hose design is adapted to ensure that pressure information is transferred correctly.

Within the MAP sensor, a piezoelectric crystal converts pressure into linear signal voltage. Low pressure produces a low voltage signal (0.4 VDC @ -0.75 bar), high pressure produces a high voltage signal (3.3 VDC @ +0.75 bar).
