Timing Component Alignment Marks: Locations

Timing Component Alignment Marks

Warning!
The camshafts must not be rotated because the valves could touch the pistons or each other and become damaged. The crankshaft may only be turned between 0° and 60° BTDC when the camshafts of both cylinder heads are locked with locking tools.

Zero the engine. The marks on the camshaft sprockets and the timing cover should align as should the markings on the crankshaft. Refer to figure numbers 11 and 12.

Some engine have 2 marks on the camshaft sprockets. In these cases the correct marks will line up when the camshaft locating pins are in correct position, as shown.

Caution: Incorrect removal or installation of the timing belt can result in damage to internal engine components.
