Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor

To remove
1 Open the expansion tank cap to release the pressure in the cooling system. Screw on the cap again.

2 Remove the resonator.

3 Unplug the connector and remove the sensor

To fit

1 Fit the temperature sensor and plug in the connector.
Tightening torque: 13 Nm (9.5 lbf ft)

2 Fit the resonator.
Fill up with coolant and check the system for leaks.

IMPORTANT
The O-rings between the resonator and throttle body can when fitting be incorrectly positioned, which means the engine receives air that has not passed through the mass air flow sensor. This can cause problems with driveability resulting in the need for fault diagnosis.
When any work is done that involves removing the resonating chamber from the throttle body, the following steps must always be taken:
- Check the condition of the O-rings and that they are properly seated.
Replace any O-rings that are deformed.
- Grease the O-rings with non-acidic petroleum jelly (vaseline).
