Limp-home

A serious system error, such as a mechanical fault in the system's input or output functions, or an internal control module fault, will disconnect all the control module functions and activate the emergency drive program. The CHECK GEARBOX warning lamp will also go on and a diagnostic trouble code will be stored.

In this situation the transmission will be controlled only by the hydraulic control system. This limits the transmission's functions and the car can only be driven to a suitable garage for repairs. That is why it is called Limp-Home.
