Wheel Speed Sensor: Service and Repair

Front

Fig. 64 Front Speed Sensor Replacement:

1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then raise and support vehicle.
2. Disconnect wheel speed sensor electrical connector, Fig. 64.
3. Remove wheel speed sensor to steering knuckle Torx head bolt, then the wheel speed sensor. When removing speed sensor be careful not to damage speed sensor ring. Even a minor scratch on the sensor ring can cause a loss of ABS operation. The front speed sensor has a locating pin which may become stuck in the steering knuckle. This pin may separate from sensor during removal and remain in the knuckle. If this pin cannot be pulled out of the knuckle it must be drilled out using an 8mm drill bit. Be careful not to enlarge the pin hole when drilling pin out of knuckle.
4. Reverse procedure to install. Torque Torx head bolt to 89 inch lbs.
