Starter Motor: Service and Repair

1. Remove air inlet tube and fresh air hose.
2. Remove upper starter attaching bolt through access hole near intake manifold support bracket.
3. Raise and support vehicle.
4. Remove starter shield by pulling outward to release bottom of shield, then lift shield upward to right to remove.
5. Disconnect starter electrical connectors and position aside.
6. Remove lower starter attaching bolt.
7. Pull starter rearward, toward lefthand side of vehicle to remove.
8. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Starter attaching bolts to 27 ft. lbs. and positive terminal to 5.9ft/lbs.
b. Starter solenoid terminal to 44 inch/lbs.
